QR Scout Online setup
Start guide — sync scouting data to Google Sheets
Want to send QR Scout match data — like 2549 Millerbots scouting — into your own Google Sheet without hosting anything yourself? You don't need to set up a backend or GitHub Pages. Just (1) create a Google Sheet, (2) share it with our service account so the app is allowed to write to it, and (3) enter your Sheet ID and a tab name in the app. After that, every entry you commit lands in your own spreadsheet.
Part 1 - Create your Google Sheet
1
Make a new Google Sheet
Go to sheets.new (or Google Drive → New → Google Sheets) and create a blank spreadsheet to hold your scouting data.
2
Copy the Sheet ID
Look at the sheet's address bar: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/SHEET_ID/edit. Copy the long ID between /d/ and /edit - you'll paste it into the app in Part 3.
Part 2 - Share it with our service account
3
Open Share
In your sheet, click the Share button in the top-right corner.
4
Add the service account email
Paste this email into the "Add people and groups" box, set its access to Editor, then click Send (you can untick "Notify people"):
(service email not set - ask the site owner)
Why this step matters
This is what lets the website write rows into your sheet. Without it the app can't add any data and you'll see a permission error when you sync.
Part 3 - Enter it in the app and submit
5
Load a config
On the Home tab, click Import config to upload your own JSON, or Load sample to start from the example. This takes you to the Scout tab.
6
Save your sheet
Click Show sync, paste your Google Sheet ID, optionally set a Tab name, then click Save sheet.
7
Commit and sync
Fill out the form, click Commit, then choose Sync to Sheet. A new row appears in your own Google Sheet. You can also generate a QR code for an offline backup.
Troubleshooting
Permission or 403 errors - the sheet was not shared with the service account email above as an Editor.
Nothing happens / network error - make sure the site is open over https:// or http://, not a local file:// path.
Wrong sheet or wrong tab - double-check the Sheet ID (it must be the part between /d/ and /edit) and the tab name.
